Veteran Dedication: LVRSL Main service 2022
We now dedicate and honour this main service to a veteran of World War Two and one of the great members of the Lenah Valley RSL, Ronald Allen "Nedda" Park.
Nedda was born on the 10th day of June 1922 in Hobart.
He enlisted in the navy on the 4th September 1942 in Hobart, after spending a couple of months training at HMAS Cerberus where he was then posted to the HMAS Melville in Darwin.
Nedda served on the HMAS Huon, which was classed as a River Class Torpedo Boat, then
HMAS Morton and finally the HMAS Lonsdale both torpedo boats.
After the second world war Nedda was discharged on the 5th November 1945.
In 1946 Nedda started playing for the New Town Football Club where he kicked 73 goals in his first season. Nedda went on to become one of Tasmania’s greatest footballers.
In 1948 he married Joan Olive Cazaly the youngest daughter of the great Roy Cazaly.
Nedda joined the newly formed Lenah Valley RSL where he served on the committee for many years and was tireless worker for the club.
Nedda always said that one of his greatest regrets was that whilst serving in the navy at Darwin, he recognized Albert Collier of the Collingwood football club sitting about 20 metres away at the end of the wharf.
He regretted that he never went and said hello and introduced himself to the famous Collingwood footballer.
Nedda was well known for barring himself from the RSL and would rip up his membership card saying he will never step back into the club. Thank goodness he would return to the club and be back sitting in his favourite spot alongside Sammy and Poppy once again solving the world’s problems.
Nedda was one of our clubs hardest working members and one of our greatest characters.
We thank him for his dedication and service to our Country, Community and the Lenah Valley RSL.
