Main Service - ANZAC Day – 25 April 2023 Kevin Edmund TOPE- Service number—31149
The Lenah Valley Valley RSL Dawn Service early this morning was dedicated to Augustus Roy Collins an original ANZAC who served in WW1. This main service is dedicated in remembrance to a veteran of WW2 and one of the great members of the Lenah Valley RSL, Kevin Edmund Tope.
Kevin was born on the 5th of October 1907 in Fitzroy, Victoria. Kevin was keen and great support of the Fitzroy football club.
Kevin enlisted in the Royal Australia Airforce on the 29th day of May 1941 and was posted to Laverton air force base in Victoria.
Kevin was then posted to the Signals School at Point Cook, and passed his Aircraft Installation and Magnetos and Generators theory and practice. After his training he was posted to the No.4 Squadron and promoted to corporal.
Kevin was posted to a number of bases around Australia and was in Darwin during that city’s extensive bombing in 1942.
Kevin continued to serve with distinction in the RAAF during WW2 and was discharged on the 23rd January 1946.
Kevin joined the newly formed Lenah Valley RSL Sub-branch and was instrumental in the building of the extensions of the club.
He volunteered free of charge all the electrical work associated the new and extensive refurbishment of the club. He also volunteered his services in the wiring of the Cenotaph. A fantastic saving to the club.
Kevin with the help of many of the past members ensured that our club would continue to grow and be a place for all the service personnel and community to enjoy. For his dedication and service to our Country, Community and the Lenah Valley RSL we give our heartfelt thanks.
