Maurice Ducker

Born: 22-08-1924


Born London August 22nd 1924.


Studied Electrical Engineering in U.K.



1950 migrated to Australia aboard s.s. Cameronia. (no 5 pounds required for ex-servicemen!)



Worked in Quirindi and Coffs Harbour



1958 -1971 conducted own electrical business mainly in Wollongong N.S.W (bought out by a large Sydney company).



During this time was President for some years of Jamberoo R.S.L.



1972 came as General Manager (Tasmania) to a large electrical and refrigeration Company at Cambridge, in premises now occupied by Tasmania Fire Service.


One of our many electrical projects, all over the state, was Wrest point Casino.



After a couple of employment variations, retired in 1997 and became member of St.Johns Park Bowls Club, where I was Treasurer for thirteen years.

World War Two Service


Veteran Details


Royal Navy: Enlistment date: 27 July 1942 – Discharge date: 15 August 1946.


Joined Home Guard March 1941 with false age. Discovered and thrown out May 1941.


Re-joined Home Guard August 1941 and served until July 1942.


Volunteered for Royal Navy (gave April birth date) and enlisted July 27th 1942. PJX 329472


Initial six weeks training Skegness (in former Butlins Holiday Camp, but for us it was anything but that!)


Trained as telegraphist Ayr Scotland.


Served on H.M.S Kingston Andalusite (armed trawler) escorting convoys in the Atlantic. Skipper awarded D.S.C. for one particular "do"


Re-trained as radio technician.


Became Petty Officer.


1944 served in the Pacific aboard H.M.S Deersound, a repair ship (floating workshops) accompanying the British Pacific Fleet. We could repair anything, and


rescue parts from crashed aircraft with our two Tank Landing Craft.


At end of war our ship taken to repatriate P.O.W.s and all personnel dumped in Sydney's Warwick Farm Racecourse, in tents, to await transport back to U.K.


1946 returned to U.K. aboard U.S.S. Winchester Victory.
