Veteran Dedication: LVRSL Main Service 2024:
Main service 2024 Clifford & Betty Coppin
The Lenah Valley Dawn Service was dedicated to Thomas Martin McTye.
This main service is dedicated in remembrance to Clifford and Corbetta “Betty” Coppin, two hard working members of the Lenah Valley RSL.
Clifford was born on the 4 December 1918 in Burnie, Tasmania the son of George Alfred and Ada Beatrice Coppin nee Russell.
Cliff enlisted on the 30 July 1942 at Bellerive, Tasmania, and was posted to the A.A.S.C. Supply Column. He held the rank of a Private and was discharged on his birthday the 4 December 1944. Cliff was posted to Darwin and had a very interesting war service.
After his return Cliff joined the newly formed Lenah Valley RSL. After many years Cliff was elected to the Lenah Valley RSL committee in 1981.
One of his many duties was working behind the bar, where the stories were many and very interesting. A Committee member would also have to be present at the close of the RSL each night. Another part of his many duties would be to recite the Ode, one night when it was Cliff’s turn, he got halfway through the Ode then said, “that’s it” I can’t remember anymore, Lest We Forget.
Cliff died at Hobart on the 24 September 1990, aged 72 years.
Corbetta “Betty” was born on the 7 June 1920 the daughter of Roydan Morrisby Calvert and Daisy Calvert – nee Chipman.
Betty was very involved with the Ladies Auxiliary where she spent many years on ANZAC Day helping with Breakfasts – morning tea – lunches – afternoon teas.
Over the years the ladies would also do lunches for the Lenah Valley RSL members luncheons plus other events.
Betty held the position of Vice Patron 2004 – 2005 – 2006, Betty was also awarded Life Member of the Lenah Valley RSL.
Betty died in Hobart on the 24 September 2021, aged 101 years.
For their dedication and service to Our County, Community and the Lenah Valley RSL we give our heartfelt thanks.
